Stories Deserve More Than a Place on a Shelf

Books preserve stories, but the people, artwork, history, and creative moments surrounding those books are often forgotten.

Literary Collectibles is a new initiative designed to preserve and celebrate literature through carefully produced collectible pieces that connect readers with authors, stories, books, and literary history.

Created with an archival mindset and a collector’s appreciation for meaningful objects, Literary Collectibles will transform selected literary works into tangible pieces of cultural memory.

More Than a Trading Card

Literary Collectibles are not intended to imitate traditional sports or entertainment cards. They are designed as miniature literary exhibits—objects that introduce readers to a book, preserve an author’s contribution, and celebrate the story behind the publication.

Each collectible may highlight a different part of the literary experience, including:

• Authors and their creative journeys
• Individual stories and their themes
• Book and anthology cover artwork
• Important publishing milestones
• Literary organizations, events, and historical moments

Together, these collectibles will create an expanding visual and historical record of literature and the people responsible for creating it.

The First Collection

The first Literary Collectibles project will be connected to the 11th Annual Short Stories by Texas Authors anthology.

Rather than treating the anthology as a single collectible, the project will explore several distinct parts of the publication. This will allow collectors and readers to discover the anthology through its overall identity, its contributing authors, and the individual stories selected for publication.

Additional details will be announced after the anthology selections and final cover design have been completed.

Designed for Discovery

Every Literary Collectible will be created to encourage further exploration.

A reader may first discover a compelling image, an unfamiliar author, or an intriguing story title. That collectible can then become a doorway into the complete work, the author’s broader catalog, and the history surrounding the publication.

The goal is not simply to produce something people can own. The goal is to create something that makes people want to read, learn, remember, and collect.

Built as a Literary Archive

Literary Collectibles will use an organized identification and cataloging system so that each item can be connected to its collection, publication, and place within the larger program.

This structure will allow the project to grow over time while preserving the identity of every release.

Future collections may explore additional anthologies, books, authors, literary programs, historical publications, and other parts of the writing and publishing world.

Why This Matters

Writers create more than products. They create cultural records.

Yet many meaningful stories, independent publications, and author achievements disappear from public memory once a book is no longer new. Literary Collectibles offers another way to preserve those contributions while creating an accessible connection between literature and future readers.

For authors, the project offers a new form of recognition and discovery.

For collectors, it offers the opportunity to preserve a growing piece of literary history.

A New Chapter in Literary Discovery

The Literary Collectibles program is currently in development, with the first official collection planned in connection with the upcoming Short Stories by Texas Authors anthology.

Designs, participating authors, featured stories, availability, and collector information will be announced as the collection moves closer to production.

The ASC is based in Austin, Texas; thus, most responses are Texas-centered, but also apply to each state in the union.

Is the A-Corp a corporation?

Despite the common nickname, Colorado’s Artist Company is legally a specialized form of LLC.

Can authors qualify?

Yes. Written and literary creative work falls within the scope of the Act.

Must I live in Colorado?

Not necessarily, but an out-of-state owner may face additional registration, tax, reporting, and operating requirements.

Does an A-Corp automatically protect my copyright?

No. Copyright protection, ownership, registration, licensing, and enforcement remain separate matters.

Must the company own my books?

Not necessarily. Intellectual property may potentially be owned by an author and licensed to a company, or transferred under a different arrangement. Professional advice is essential.

Does the author always keep control?

The law requires qualifying artists collectively to retain at least 51 percent of voting power. That does not mean one individual author necessarily controls every decision.

Can investors participate?

Potentially, but investments, revenue-sharing arrangements, and ownership offerings may be regulated by federal and state securities laws.

Is an A-Corp better than a Texas LLC?

Not automatically. A well-drafted Texas LLC agreement may address many author concerns. The structures should be compared based on actual needs.

Can the Authors Success Center form an A-Corp for me?

No. ASC provides education and resource information. Formation and legal documentation should be handled by qualified professionals.

Will Texas create an A-Corp?

No comparable Texas, or any other state's, structure has been established through the Colorado Act. Any Texas version would require separate analysis and legislation. ASC will be working with the Artist Foundation to help create materials that artists/authors can use in their state to get their legislatures to create the same type of program.

Why should I learn about this if I never form one?

The A-Corp raises valuable questions about artistic mission, control, ownership, investment, collaboration, and legacy. Those questions matter under any business structure.
